As of February 2021, Cape Lookout State Park has begun mosquito control operations.
Cape Lookout State Park management is dedicated to providing the best camping experience for the visitors of the park. While mosquitoes are part of the environment and camping experience, excessive mosquitoes pose threats to the enjoyment and health of visitors.
Currently, the Park has outsourced mosquito control to a commercially licensed vector control company.
The #1 goal is to reduce the mosquito populations while remaining environmentally responsible.
Source reduction and larviciding with a biological material are the main focuses of control.
Adulticiding will occur only when mosquito populations exceed a an approved action threshold.
We rely on the feedback of visitors to know how we can do better. If you have feedback, complaints or suggestions, please let us know.
Cape Lookout State Park does not routinely use pesticides to manage adult mosquitoes. When the need occurs, notice will be provided by Park staff and volunteers prior to any adulticide for adult mosquito control. All pesticide information will be provided to staff and guests prior to any application of adulticides. Park guests will be notified in advance, before any adulticide application is conducted.
